Contemporary Artist
Kirt Jason Cruz-
San Pedro, Belize, Central America
Jason is a born artist, his father is an artist, and Kirt has been painting since a very young age. As you can see in his own words below, Kirt has an unbelievable talent, one which takes him beyond the everyday lives around him to overcome obstacles which make him stronger, as he says in his own words….
“I am an artist from Belize, Central America. I am 29 years old and have been right handed for 28 years. In 2006 I was attacked and was stabbed in the lower back and neck. The injury affected my mobility and I am now disabled and unable to use my right hand to paint. After four months in bed, contrary to what the doctors said I stood up and started to walk with my walker. Being an artist previously for 16 years with my right hand which I am unable to use now.
I decided to create artwork with my left hand. Using my left hand for over a year now has shown me that the mind is a very powerful thing. Everything is possible in the eyes of God. Having a strong heart, mind and soul is what keeps me painting things right with my left”
Kirt’s Father, Pedro Armando Cruz, Age 50, San Ignacio, Belize
We also have some of Kirts fathers paintings represented within this gallery- his father is a much acclaimed artist, and has been painting for over 35 years, well known both inside Belize and outside the country. He has done work for several large multinational companies over the years as well, and we are lucky to have his work to show you. Mr. Cruz paints from his own impressions and imagination, and does not use objects as living subjects. Amazing work from an amazing artist!
